Finding the right sports bra can be a challenge, but it’s an important part of any active lifestyle. Whether you’re a serious athlete or enjoy a daily walk, a properly fitted sports bra is essential for comfort and support.
During physical activity, your breasts move in a figure-of-eight pattern—up and down, side to side, and forward and back. This movement can stretch the delicate ligaments that support your breasts. Over time, this can lead to discomfort and a loss of breast shape.
While a sports bra can’t completely stop this process, it does significantly reduce breast movement, helping to slow down ligament stretch and provide the support you need to feel comfortable and confident during exercise.
It’s also crucial to find the correct fit. A sports bra that is too large won’t provide the support needed to prevent movement, which is why we recommend choosing a sports bra that uses regular bra sizing (e.g., 34D) for a more accurate fit.
When you’re shopping for a sports bra, we always recommend starting with your regular bra size. However, sizes can vary between brands, so use this guide to double-check that you have the right fit.
The Cups:
Your breasts should be fully enclosed and covered by the cups, with no spilling over the top or sides. If you notice any wrinkling or gaping, the cup size is likely too large. If your breasts feel squished, the cup size is too small.
The Band:
The underband should be firm and level all the way around your body, with only a 1-2 inch gap when you pull on it. If the band rides up in the back, it’s too big, and you should try a smaller band size.
The Straps:
The straps should sit comfortably on your shoulders. If they are digging in or leaving red marks, loosen them to find the perfect fit. You should be able to fit one or two fingers between the strap and your skin.
Different activities require different levels of support. Use this guide to find the right sports bra for your activity level.
