Did you know that most women are wearing the wrong bra size? Finding the right fit can change how you feel, providing comfort and confidence all day long.

This simple guide will help you find a bra that fits you just right.

Step 1: Measure Your Band Size

Your bra’s band provides most of the support, so it’s the most important measurement.

  • What to wear: A non-padded bra.

  • Where to measure: Wrap a soft tape measure snugly around your ribcage, directly under your bust. Make sure the tape is level and parallel to the floor.

  • Your number: Round the measurement to the nearest even number. For example, if you measure 31 inches, your band size is 30.

Step 2: Measure Your Bust

  • Where to measure: Measure the fullest part of your bust. Keep the tape measure level across your back and don’t pull it too tight.

  • Your number: Round up to the nearest whole number. For example, if you measure 33.5 inches, your bust measurement is 34.

Step 3: Calculate Your Cup Size

  • The formula: Subtract your band size from your bust measurement.

  • Find your letter: The difference in inches corresponds to your cup size.
    • 1 inch = A
    • 2 inches = B
    • 3 inches = C
    • 4 inches = D
    • …and so on.

Example:

  • Band: 30 inches
  • Bust: 34 inches
  • Difference: 34 – 30 = 4 inches
  • Your size: 30D
The Bra Fit Checklist
The Bra Fit Checklist

Once you have your size, try on a bra and check these five key areas to ensure the perfect fit.

  1. The Band: The back of the bra should be straight and parallel to the floor, without riding up or down. You should be able to comfortably fit two fingers underneath the band.

  2. The Straps: Your straps should not dig into your shoulders or constantly slip off. They should be firm enough to stay in place without leaving red marks.

  3. The Center Gore: This is the small panel between the cups. It should lie completely flat against your chest. If it gaps, the bra style might not be right for your shape, even if the size is correct.

  4. The Cups: Your breasts should completely fill the cups without any spilling out on top or sides. If you have any gapping, the cup size may be too large.

  5. The Underwire: The underwire should sit comfortably under your breasts, encompassing all your breast tissue without digging into you or your armpit.

Sister Sizing: Your Secret Weapon

Sister sizing means that bras in different sizes can have the same cup volume. This is useful if a bra’s band feels slightly off.

  • To find your sister size, go down one band size and up one cup size. (Example: a 34C is a sister size of a 32D).

  • You can also go up one band size and down one cup size. (Example: a 34C is also a sister size of a 36B).

Remember to check your bra size every six months, as your body naturally changes over time.
